Finding Balance in the Busiest of Times

If you aren’t already in the know….. I founded my own retreat centre a year ago called Milada Sanctuary in Tallebudgera, Gold Coast. It’s one of the main reasons I haven’t been able to post as much useful content for you because it has kept me super busy, and I want to make sure that anything I send you is of value and something you will benefit from. Not just sending you an email because I need to get something out every week!

So I will be sharing more about Milada Sanctuary later, but for now, I want to focus on balance in my life, therefore I’m sure that will be a useful topic for you also. I have been hosting and running so many amazing events at Milada Sanctuary and it’s been freaking awesome meeting so many new people! I have literally had hundreds of people through here in the last 12 months and there are some more great events coming up.

Now that I have a moment to relax and sit back ( sort of float back to earth),  I realized that what helps me handle all the high-intensity activities I’ve been involving myself with is that I do my best to balance aspects of my life. This balance is vital to ensure that I am at my optimum capacity to accomplish my dreams on a daily basis. Especially with activities that involve large groups of people, even the littlest things can drain you if you let it. You can choose to get caught up with all the nitty-gritty details of the preparations, making sure all is in its right place or anticipating worse case scenarios… Or you can do all you can to prepare properly and then just let it all flow knowing that all is what it is and what will be will be. The later is the outlook I try to maintain and is something we should all try to apply to our daily lives. Don’t sweat the small stuff some would say…..And it’s all small stuff at the end of the day, so just relax and don’t stress. It’s all good!

Here’s what I do to keep myself balanced during the busiest times:

Sticking to a Morning Routine

I am big in doing my morning routine as it sets the whole tone of my day. For those who know me, you know how much I harp on about my morning routine.

Some people find it difficult to stick to a daily routine when their day is packed full of tasks and errands. I find that you have a better chance of maintaining a routine if those activities directly relate to your personal goals or what I like to call Excitement targets. Goals are easy to achieve when they excite you!

So it’s safe to say that you first need to have an Excitement Target in mind.  Then go ahead, run your activities in your head and pick those healthy habits that will contribute to your Excitement Target. If your target is to be healthy and be optimally able to accomplish any tasks, then your habits need to revolve around activities that will give you energy throughout the day as well as the mental clarity to give a laser-like focus on your work or personal life.

5-10 mins can be enough for such activities to dramatically improve your life. You can even stack one quick routine on top of another and complete a lot of important things in a single block of 30 minutes.

Meditation

I find solace in meditation. Sometimes I do Yin Yoga so I can meditate at the same time.  Not only does it allow me to connect with my inner self, but I’m also able to tune into what the world out there is telling me. Funny, it’s like mentally unplugging yourself only to reconnect to a higher and a more stable power source. It’s a bit woo-woo if you don’t practice meditation, but science has backed its many benefits. It’s good for your health and good for your soul. There is no firm fast rule in how to meditate. It is a personal practice after all. Some choose to focus on a single thing such as their breathing and coming back to it when their minds start to wander. Some do the opposite and try to pay attention to the many details of their surroundings but without reacting to them. There are days when I feel challenged in centering myself but I usually give myself at least 5-10 mins of peace and serenity. It’s also my time to do affirmations to pump me up throughout the day.

Do at least 10min of yoga, partner balance poses or stretching (or all of the above)

I want to keep myself strong and limber. Yoga works hand in hand with meditation in the sense that it helps me strengthen my focus, and at the same time, it strengthens my body. All the running around during events can be tiring and I try to keep my stamina and flexibility stable.

(Being in a relationship with a Gymnastic Champion certainly helps too *wink*)

Drinking fresh cold pressed juice every day

Fresh, organic, and chemical free cold pressed juices are a must for me. The valuable vitamins and minerals are retained in these wonderful juices which flood our bodies with super nutrition. I stay away from artificially flavored drinks or those ladened with sugar and pesticides. And then every once in awhile, I give myself a juice detox to fully rehydrate my body as well as letting it naturally heal. I recommend you do this at least every 6 months. I have already done 2 juice detoxes this year so will probably complete 3 or 4 before the year is up.

Spend time in nature

This to me is like another form of meditation. The mermaid in me loves to surf or just be in the water. There is something both powerful and calming when I interact with seawater which is why I make it a point to surf or swim every time I am near the ocean.  

Obviously, you can get access to Mother Nature in many other ways but when you do, try to really let her beauty sink in. Recognize, appreciate, and enjoy her wonders. When we are connected to nature, we develop a protective instinct for it and we become more conscious of what we knowingly and unknowingly do to our planet.

Have fun, play, laugh and smile at everyone.

Fun is very important to me and I like keeping that childlike attitude within. I like waking up with a spring in my step, feeling vital, and empowered. A smile, especially an unexpected one, can brighten someone’s day. Don’t be stingy on smiles as it can do wonders to others and to yourself. Yes, beautiful, you are allowed to smile to yourself in the mirror. (A lil air kiss and a sultry “good morning gorgeous” are even more welcomed! Haha.)

Love (hug, kiss, and praise others)

Now, this is the icing on my (vegan) cake. Crazy schedules can create a monster out of people but when you are grounded in love and gratitude, you can keep your crazy monster at bay so you maintain your grace and kindness to others. Love is divine and it trumps everything. Love is free and love is encompassing. Take time to appreciate a person’s presence in your life, whether it’s your friends, family, partner or employees, praise them for all that you see and love in them.  When you feel overwhelmed with either success or failures, try to remain in gratitude for the life that allows you to experience that. Remember, life is dynamic so just roll with the ebbs and flows and be kind, loving and graceful through it all.

There you go. These are what help me stay centered and balanced. We each have our own different yardstick for stress but it all measures even if you are able to successfully manage it. Sometimes, the solution is that feeling of accomplishment when you keep your cool through the challenging times and get done what you have set out to do…sometimes, the solution is to throw everything out of the window for just a moment, re-centre yourself with meditation, grounding or yoga then refocus on just letting loose and having a shit load of FUN. That’s what it’s all about right!?

Either way, what’s important is that you have the clarity and strength to do what is needed to master your own brilliance.
